Macrame String, Rope & Cord. What is the difference?

Macrame String, Rope & Cord. What is the difference?

Macrame String, Rope & Cord. What is the difference?
When you're staring out with Macrame, it can be quite overwhelming to choose the correct product.. theres a lot on the market! Don't let this deter you, i hope this little introduction helps you with your selection!

I'm going to guide you through the three types available, showing the difference between Macrame String, Rope & Cord.. and what you should use where.

braided sash cord, single strand string and twisted rope.

The braided sash cord has a multiple amount of strings or threads braided together to create a very durable and robust cord. This is favoured for plant hangers, wearable items and pieces where you do not require a soft fringed end. If you're after a blunt look this is for you. You can brush it out, but due to that braid it is difficult.

Next we have the single strand string which as you can see has a multiple amount of strands together which has a slight twist it is more difficult than the braided sash cord to use, the reason why we use it is it gives a nice flawless polished look and the ends brush out so beautifully for a beautiful fringe. This is a favourite amongst Makers who create wall hangers and rainbows because of that lush look we get from it.

Twisted rope has three single strand strings twisted together, so this is to a quite a robust and durable product to use and when you unravel it, it comes apart in those three sections. You can brush it out and it creates an almost crimped or permed sort of look so depending what sort of piece you are making it really does um yeah lead you to use one of these three items twisted rope string and braided sash cord i have all of these available in my store in up to 50 colours let me know if you need any help choosing

If you need any help selection the perfect Macrame Supplies please let me know, i am always happy to help you start your creative journey!

Being creative is apart of who I am, and if you're reading this... its who you are. It’s how I self-express and share my journey. It was only 3 years ago when I 'found' macrame as someone in my life sharply told me to 'get a hobby'. Before this, I didn’t know what macramé was or or how to even pronounce it...

Great cotton string

I’ve just started on a new project with this string and so far going well! After using 5mm it’s so different with 3mm! Stays together really well and easy to tie. I’m a loose knotter but this seems to tie well.
